- KREI Signs MOU with Pusan National University

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Pusan National University on September 23 at the university's main administration building to strengthen cooperation in agricultural and rural policy research and exchanges.
Under the terms of the MOU, the two institutions agreed to collaborate on:
Sharing information and human networks related to agriculture and rural areas,
Conducting comprehensive studies on rural economy, social development, food industry, and food technology,
Exchanging expertise, as well as human and material resources, to share experiences and know-how.

- KREI Held The 3Rd KREI Agricultural Policy Forum

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) held the 3rd KREI Agricultural Policy Forum on September 11 at the National Assembly Member's Hall.
The forum was organized to discuss ways to establish income and management safety nets for farmers that are suitable for South Korea's agricultural conditions.
The event was hosted by members of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, and Fisheries Committee of the People Power Party, with KREI serving as the organizer.
The forum included presentations by KREI Research Fellow Kim Tae-hoo and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' Director of Agricultural Policy, Yoon Won-seup, followed by a comprehensive discussion among related experts.

- KREI and Nonghyup Economic Holdings Sign Mou for 'Breakfast Eating Campaign'

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) has announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Nonghyup Economic Holdings on the 27th to promote the 'Breakfast Eating Mutual Cooperation' initiative and to launch the 'Breakfast Eating Campaign.'
The event, organized as part of a campaign to boost rice consumption, was attended by Han Doo Bong, President of KREI, Kim Ju Yang, Head of the Rice Marketing Department at Nonghyup Economic Holdings, and other KREI officials.
During the event, attendees shared a meal and discussed the challenges faced by farmers due to unstable rice prices. They also agreed on the importance of the Breakfast Eating Campaign to promote rice consumption and improve the health of employees.

- KREI Hosts 2024 College Student Thesis Competition

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) co-hosted the 2024 National College Student Thesis Competition with the Korean Society of Agricultural and Food Policy on August 20.
The competition, organized by KREI and the Korean Society of Agricultural and Food Policy, received excellent thesis submissions from universities across the country. The awards included one Grand Prize, two Excellence Awards, three Encouragement Awards, and six Exploration Awards.
The Grand Prize was awarded to the thesis titled "Market Impact Analysis of Lifting SPS Measures on Apples Using the Balanced Substitution Model," written by Kwon Jeongbin and Jo Yubin from Chungnam National University.

- KREI Hosts Field Discussion on Highland Vegetable Production Areas

The Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) held a field discussion on highland vegetable production areas on August 6 and 7 at the Daegwallyeong Horticultural Cooperative’s meeting room, where they also conducted on-site inspections of the production areas.
During the discussion on August 6, participants reviewed the growth and shipment trends of highland vegetables for 2024.
They also gathered expert opinions on assessing the current system for collecting mountain-area information and potential ways to improve it in the future.

- KREI and the Korean Association of Agricultural Economists Hold 2024 Graduate Student Thesis Competition

On July 5, the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) and the Korean Association of Agricultural Economists (KAEA) co-hosted a graduate student thesis competition at the Convention Center on the Seoul National University Siheung Campus.
In the graduate student category, a selection process was carried out, involving presentations of papers that had passed preliminary reviews, followed by final evaluations.
As a result, one paper received the Grand Prize, two papers were awarded Excellence Prizes, and three received Exploration Prizes.
The Grand Prize was awarded to the thesis presented by Park Hyun-joo from Korea University, titled "Flight to Agriculture: Are Agricultural Futures an Alternative Investment?"
